Flooding in New Orleans is a problem we all know and hate, but building bigger better-pumping systems isn't the solution. I've wanted to make planter boxes for a while because they are the perfect mix of beauty and functionality but never had the resources to make any. But with the help of Groundworks NOLA, I was able to make 4 flow-through planters that are on display at New Harmony High. Originally I wanted to make only three planters and one made out of glass. However, with time constraints and scheduling, I made a small display instead.

School gardens promote sustainable education and a connection to the earth and where our food comes from. I am working with New Harmony High to create a student led garden for the advisories to promote interest in sustainable agriculture and create opportunities to spend more time outside. New Harmony High is a school that should be all about outdoor learning and sustainability. Learning how to garden is a way for us to do just that. The garden will be in planter boxes placed around the school, and I will be guiding the advisories to explore how to plant, water and care for their mini garden. I am also dedicating my time in the summer and for as long as needed after my own graduation to care for the garden and create space for students to garden for years to come.

Clothing waste has become one of the earth's top polluters and has only gotten worse as the years go on. There are steps we can take to slow this process down and make it a non issue. We spend billions of dollars on clothes alone, that are either worn for short amounts of time, thrown away, or destroyed never to be seen or worn again. My partner and I decided to come up with some ideas that can make an impact on the fashion industry. We began the project by researching fast fashion versus sustainable fashion. Then we learned about upcycling and took sewing classes to learn how to sew upcycled clothes. We sewed a variety of clothing and planned a fashion show to teach our peers.

Overfishing is one of the most overlooked problems of today. For my capstone, I made a club about fishing to bring awareness to overfishing. I taught 3 classes to my peers.
