The New Webex

Cisco’s push to create a unified application for everything Webex is progressing and they have announced that the new Webex is here! Webex Teams will now be simply Webex, with Webex Teams and Webex Meetings features all in one place. This is an ongoing process, so your Webex Meetings app will still work independently from the desktop Webex application (formerly known as Webex Teams).

You may, or may not, have noticed that your Webex Teams desktop application window looks a bit different these days. Or maybe your Webex Teams app looks exactly the same because it hasn’t updated yet. If your application is still labeled Webex Teams, you can download the new Webex at https://webex.com/downloads.

Contacts

You will notice that, under the Spaces and Teams icons in your left menu, there is a new Contacts icon (a silhouette of a person) where you can add people to your contacts list and organize them, as you can in apps like Skype for Business & Jabber.

Calendar

The calendar icon can now be used to start your Webex personal room Meetings, as well as join meetings using the Meeting ID input, like your Webex Meetings desktop application. The Schedule a meeting icon will connect to your Outlook calendar to schedule a personal room meeting as well (if you have Webex Productivity Tools downloaded to your computer).

Phone

We (NERIC) have not yet integrated our Cisco Jabber soft phone application into Webex yet, so the Webex phone icon will only work with Webex space calls and video endpoint calls (SIP addressing). The Jabber integration will come down the line, though, to make the new Webex the one application to rule them all!
