Getting Started

Q: I'm a parent and my child / student is using Seesaw for remote / home learning. Where do I start?

A: Start with the Seesaw Class app.

If your child has a tablet computer to use for remote learning at home, you will need to download and install the latest version of the Seesaw Class app:

The Seesaw Class app is also available for:

After installing the Seesaw Class app or bookmarking the Seesaw class website you're ready for your Class Join Code!

Q: What is a Seesaw Home Learning Code and how do I get one for my child / student?

A: The "Home Learning Code" is a QR code (and optional join code) you will use with the Seesaw Class app to access your child's homeroom in Seesaw. Home Learning Codes are text codes that allow students to sign in to the Seesaw CLASS app from home while protecting their privacy. This means students can add posts to their journal, respond to activities, view announcements, and comment on their own work. Students cannot see or comment on other students’ work.

Q: Where do I get my child’s Home Learning Code?

A: Your child’s classroom teacher (for students in grades PK through 2nd) will provide you with your learning code.

Q: Can my student use their Clever QR code to access Seesaw?

A: Needham has not yet activated Seesaw through Clever so you should use your Home Learning Code to login to Seesaw.

Q: Is an app update required?

A: Yes. Please make sure you have the most recent version of the Seesaw CLASS app downloaded on your home device. Students using computers can visit app.seesaw.me. Please also check out our available operating systems and platforms here.

Q: Do Home Learning Codes expire?

A: Home Learning Codes expire after 90 days. Once your child signs in with a Home Learning Code, they will stay logged in for 1 year or until they log out.

Q: My student's home learning code isn't working!

A: Check to make sure:

  • Your student is using the Seesaw Class app to scan the code (not the Family app).

  • If using a tablet the app is up to date

  • Make sure you have entered the text code correctly.

Q: Can I just use the Family app?

A: Home Learning Codes allow students to access their journal and all Class app learning tools. The Family app is great for family members and teachers to communicate, but students should use the Class app for home learning.

Q: Can students access activities in the Family app?

A: No. Students can access activities in the Seesaw Class app by signing in with their Home Learning Code.

Q: If a student logs into the Class app, then on the same device their family member logs into the Family app to message the teacher, does the student need to log out of the Class app?

A: Students can stay logged in, they do NOT have to log out in this case. The Class app and the Family app are separate applications.

Q: Some parents are using one device with multiple children. Can multiple students use the same device with Home Learning Codes? How do you recommend they manage this?

A: When multiple children are using the same device for home learning, each child should log out of their account when they’re done using it. We recommend printing each child’s text code and hanging it in your learning space.

Q: Can students stay logged in to the Seesaw App?

A: Yes. Students can stay logged in, unless multiple students are sharing the same device.

Q: I can see that my student has activities assigned but can not get them to appear or be fully viewable or accessed.

A: If you are using a tablet be sure you have the most up to date version of the Seesaw app. Also try rotating the tablet - it works best when held landscape.
