04/18 - 06/10
CHEMICAL MAGIC UNIT
5th Grade Key Concepts Overview:
● Substances can change other substances
● Substances can change but not disappear
● Acids are very reactive substances
● Chemical reactions are the mixing of two or more substances that create a new substance
● Gases are made of particles too small to be seen
01/21-04/08
WEB OF LIFE
Ecosystem And The Food Web
In this unit, students explore how organisms depend on one another and form an interconnected ecosystem. Students investigate food chains, food webs, and their importance of producers, consumers, and decomposers.
11/29/21-01/28/22
WATERY PLANET
Water Cycle, Resources, & Systems
In this unit, students consider the profound importance of water as a natural resource. Students investigate the distribution of water, how it cycles through Earth’s systems, and explore how it affects human societies.
The 5th graders will continue exploring how stars change according to the seasons and also how the moon changes shape.
Last week the 5th graders tackled the ideas of Earth's placement in the sky throughout the year to form seasons.
This week's focus question: How does the moon change shape?
5th graders will continue learning about seasons with the focus question: How can the Sun tell you the Seasons?
This week's Focus Question: How can the Sun tell you the seasons?
This week's focus question: Who set the first clock?
This week's focus question: How fast does the Earth spin?
This week's focus question: How are the star's trails patterns created?
5th Grade is investigating the question, "Is Earth a system?"
In 5th Grade we are moving into the study of Living Systems of all types: Earth, plants, and humans!
The Learners are developing recipes for their Trimester 2 Cultural Library Projects. They are working with the question, "why are nutrients important for humans?" and will use their recipe to develop a nutritional label.
Fifth Graders are taking their understanding of mass to answer the question, "what chemical reactions go on in our bodies?"
The 5th graders are continuing their study of matter by studying the question, "what is the conservation of mass?"
In 5th Grade the Learners will be sharing their lab findings for the particle nature of matter. The Lab they are presenting consists of Fizzy Water Rockets!
The 5th graders will continue their work with mixtures, solutions, and matter with the question, "what is the particle nature of matter?"
In 5th grade we will be answering the question, "Where does the solid material go when a solution is made?"
The learners will be answering the question "What is Coding?" and explore coding.
Fifth graders will be finishing up learning about "How can a mixture be separated ?". Then, the learners will be answering the question "What is Coding?", explore coding, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The 5th Graders new Unit of study is Mixtures and Solutions! We will finish up some Climate Change stuff on Mon & Tues, and then jump into the question, "How can a mixture be separated?"
The 5th Graders are going to be answering the question, "Why should we as humans care about global warming?"
In 5th Grade we will be concluding our investigations about water conservation and move into Mixtures and Solutions.
Fifth graders will answer the question, Why should we as conservationists protect Earth's water supply?
The 5th Graders will be answering the question, "how is water distributed over Earth's surface and atmosphere, how does it move?"
In 5th Grade we are beginning to finish up studying the difference between weather and climate. We will then move into more information about how water and weather relate.
The 5th Graders are studying the question, "what is the difference between weather and climate?" Answering this question will help lead them into understanding how weather effects our water, which is the driving topic of their Trimester 1 Project.
We are finishing up the different layers of Earth's Atmosphere: troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere. When we finish with that, we will begin answering the question, "What is the difference between weather and climate?"
Now that the 5th Graders have studied air, we are moving into studying the layers of the atmosphere. We will have a strong emphasis on weather and how/where it occurs to prepare us for our Trimester 1 project.
In 5th Grade we are finishing up with reviewing the phases of the moon and beginning to answer the Focus Question, "What is air?" which will include information about air pressure.
With so many different objects in space, we are still continuing to research them all. From Gas Giant Planets to Terrestrial Planets, we have more information to learn about them this week!
The 5th Graders are going to be investigating the question, "What objects do we observe in our solar system and how do they move in relation to each other?"
In 5th Grade we are learning more about the aspects of space by investigating the question, "What causes day and night?"
5th Grade is beginning their Earth and Sun Unit by exploring the question, "How and why does your shadow change?"
5th Graders have been using the steps of the Scientific Method to answer questions like, "what is science?" and "what do scientists do?"
