05/01-06/10
Human Machine Unit
4th Grade Key Concepts Overview:
● Muscles pull on bones to create movement.
● Eyes are sensory organs that receive information about the world.
● Light enters the eye, which provides information about surroundings.
● The pupil gets larger to let more light in when it is dark.
● The brain receives information from the senses, processes the information, and controls the muscles to enable movement.
01/24-04/22
The Birth Of Rocks Rock Cycle, Erosion, & Natural Hazards Unit Key Concepts Overview: In this unit, students investigate features and processes of the Earth’s surface. Students explore the rapid process of volcanic eruptions! In contrast, students also explore the gradual Earth processes of weathering and erosion. Students apply their knowledge and design solutions to mitigate the impacts of these processes on humans.
11/29/21-01/21/22
Waves of Sound Unit
Waves Sound, Waves, & Communication
Unit Key Concepts Overview:
● Sound is a vibration.
● Sound needs something to travel through, like air, water, or a solid.
● Sound waves have different wavelengths, which result in different pitches.
● Higher-pitched sounds have shorter wavelengths.
● Lower-pitched sounds have longer wavelengths.
11/01-11/12
The 4th grade learners are writing scripts to describe how their chain reaction machine works and then filming presentations.
The 4th graders will choose a component to add to their chain reaction machine and work on getting the chain reaction machine to work smoothly through all four steps.
The 4th Graders are continuing their work with creating chain reactions and machines.
Last week the 4th graders learned about chain reactions in continuing to learn kinetic and potential energy.
This week's focus question: What if there were no electricity?
The 4th graders learned that the first hill of a coaster has to be the highest so that the cart can go through the whole roller coaster!
This week's focus question: Could you knock down a building using only dominoes?
This week's Focus Question: Why is the first hill of a roller coaster always the highest?
This week's Focus Question: What makes roller coasters go fast?
This week's focus question: How is your body similar to a car?
This week's Focus Question: How does the Rube Goldberg Machine work?
As the 4th Graders finish up investigating soil, they will move into answering our next focus question, "What causes big rocks to break into smaller rocks?"
The 4th Graders are moving into their final unit of Soils, Rocks, and Landforms with the investigation of, "What is soil?"
We are going to be moving into Electromagnetism and apply the 4th Graders' knowledge of electricity and magnets to see if we can conduct energy!
In 4th Grade we are finishing up the Trimester with the question, "What happens when two or more magnets interact?"
Learners have built Brush Bots with their electricity knowledge to be the iDocents in their Trimester 2 Museum Projects.
In 4th Grader the Learners will be finishing up their work with parallel and series circuits before diving into their 2nd trimester projects!
4th Graders will start working on the question, "How can you light two bulbs brightly with one D-cell?"
The 4th Graders are going to continue their work with light bulbs and simple electric circuits.
In 4th Grade the Learners will be investigating the question, "What is needed to make a complete pathway for an electrical current to flow in a circuit?"
The learners will be answering the question "What is Coding?" and explore coding.
Fourth graders will be finishing up learning about "What is needed to light a bulb?". Then, the learners will be answering the question "What is Coding?" and explore coding.
Our first question of our Energy Unit is, "What is needed to light a bulb?"
The 4th Graders are beginning their study of energy sources!
As we finish our work for Trimester 1, the Learners will be learning more about Pollution Solutions. They will learn about the impact of pollution on species and ways to help solve it.
The forth graders are finishing up learning about variations in populations.
The 4th Graders are now moving into studying animal populations and variations within different populations of species.
The 4th Graders will begin presenting their posters to other classes this week to spread the word about using more reusable food storage containers and less single use plastics. It's been great to see some of them make this shift in their own lunches and snacks with the help of you all!
The 4th Grade posters look great and the 4th Graders are really starting to see the bigger issue at hand, that we all must start cutting down on our single use plastic items.
We are heading into the final part of our Trimester 1 Project. The 4th Graders will develop posters to share data they found about reusable food storage containers and single use plastics here at school.
The 4th Graders are going to start tackling a worldwide issue, "How can we increase the use of reusable food storage containers?" Our goal is to limit and eliminate single use plastics in our everyday lives.
In 4th Grade we are starting our First Trimester Project! The Learners will be learning about the 4Rs: Reduce, Recycle, Reuse, and Rot.
We are learning about the specific organism, Brine Shrimp! The 4th Graders are going to observe if submerging Brine Shrimp eggs into different levels of salt in water will affect their hatching.
The 4th Graders are using their food chain knowledge to answer the question, "What is a food web?"
4th Graders are continuing to build their own food chains with primary and secondary consumers.
In 4th Grade we will begin to learn about producers, consumers, and decomposers with the question, "What are the roles of organisms in a food chain?"
The 4th graders began with studying the question, "what is science?" and the steps of the Scientific Method to find a conclusion.
