DEPARTMENT PLACEMENT EXAMS
Along with Faith and Service, we value Scholarship among the most important qualities of a Notre Dame student. Because of this, we want to determine the best course placements for each individual, so that he is challenged to the best of his abilities to get the most out of his Notre Dame education. The department placement exams are offered to further differentiate the results obtained from the High School Placement Test (HSPT). There are three exams offered:
The General Honors Exam is used to determine placement into Honors courses in Social Studies,
English, and Religious Studies.
Math: A mandatory math placement exam will be required of any student who scored at the 25th percentile or lower on math portion of the HSPT. You will receive a letter in your registration folder if this is required of you.
The Language Exam is for the student who has considerable experience (two or more years of significant study) in Spanish or Italian, or considers himself to be a native speaker in one of these languages. It is used to place the student into a higher level course in the respective language.
Without an RSVP, we cannot guarantee that there will be availability for your son to sit for an exam - see schedule and RSVP form linked below.
A $300 Registration deposit per incoming freshman or transfer student shall be due to NDCP prior to registering for classes and shall be non-refundable after April 30, 2024.
