DEPARTMENT PLACEMENT EXAMS
Along with Faith and Service, we value Scholarship as one of the most important qualities of a Notre Dame student. To ensure each student is placed in courses that appropriately challenge him and support his academic growth, Notre Dame uses department placement exams in addition to the High School Placement Test (HSPT).
These exams help further differentiate academic placement and allow us to determine the best course level for each student.
Three placement exams are offered:
General Honors Exam
Used to determine placement into Honors courses in Social Studies, English, and Religious Studies.
Math Exam
Used to determine placement into Honors or higher-level Math courses.
Language Exam
Designed for students with significant experience (two or more years of study) in Spanish or Italian, or for students who consider themselves native speakers. This exam is used to place students into higher-level language courses.
Please note: An RSVP is required. Without an RSVP, we cannot guarantee availability for your son to sit for a placement exam. Refer to the schedule and RSVP form linked below.
A $300 Registration deposit per incoming freshman or transfer student shall be due to NDCP prior to registering for classes and shall be non-refundable after April 30, 2026.
Orders are currently being accepted and will be taken through Friday, February 27. To place an order, please click here.
