Responsibilities

.) Ambassadors - Scholars represent the program to faculty and should keep this in mind when considering all interactions with the faculty.

.) Contracts - Scholars are responsible for scheduling the first meeting with the faculty adviser, explaining details of the program to the faculty member, and completing the contract with the faculty member. The contract helps establish expectations for both the student and the faculty member and should be referred to throughout the project. Contracts should be turned in to the Kellogg Institute by the date assigned in orientation and students should make copies for both themselves and the faculty mentor.

.) Bios - After meeting with their faculty advisers, Scholars are required to send in their web bios following the format sent by email. Note that the bios must be submitted via Qualtrics: https://nd.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6QXaKj5DlUklHBs

.) Communication - Scholars are responsible for meeting with their advisers regularly and ensuring that they are meeting the expectations of the advisers. If communication problems occur or the scholar does not have research assigned to him or her, the scholar should be in contact with Holly Rivers as soon as possible.

.) Changing Advisers - In some cases, scholars will want to change faculty advisers. Scholars are expected to work a complete semester with a faculty member before changing advisers. Scholars wishing to change advisers should speak with the Associate Director. In general, scholars are expected to work with Faculty Fellows of the Kellogg Institute. A complete list of Faculty Fellows can be found at http://kellogg.nd.edu/people/kellogg-faculty At the beginning of the academic year and each time the student changes faculty mentors, the student will be required to complete a contract with the faculty adviser. When changing faculty mentors, scholars are expected to communicate with the former faculty adviser to let him/her know about this change.

.) ISP Meetings - The orientation and three meetings per semester will be required of all International Scholars. Meetings will be noted well in advance of the dates. Students are expected to register for these meetings on the KI website and attend them in full.

.) Check-in reports - Scholars are responsible for ensuring that they complete and turn in mid-term and end of the semester reports to the Assistant Director. Report forms can be submitted online. These reports are necessary in order to track scholar progress and report to funders. Reports are generally due the week before fall and spring breaks and the week of finals each semester.

.) Updating Information - Scholar information is provided on the International Scholars web pages at http://kellogg.nd.edu/people/undergraduate-students In order to keep this information up-to-date, scholars should provide current information by completing their bios at the beginning of the academic year.

.) Mentoring Students and Facilitating Meetings – Older scholars in the program will be expected to help advise and mentor younger scholars, especially in working with faculty. Older scholars will also be asked to help facilitate ISP meetings, sharing research and experience regarding how to apply for fellowships, research grants and graduate school.

.) Payment procedures - Payment procedures are explained on a separate document. Scholars are expected to follow this process and to ensure faculty advisers are given enough time to sign off on time sheets each pay period. Questions about payment should be referred to Eniko Janko.

.) Reapplication forms - At the end of each academic year, scholars will be required to complete a reapplication form explaining their goals for the next academic year as well as their accomplishments within the previous academic year. Scholars will be notified as to whether they will be readmitted to the program or be required to interview to discuss their application in more detail. Scholars who fail to complete the form will no longer be considered a part of the Kellogg International Scholars Program.
