Topics for First Adviser Meeting
This page includes topics that should be covered in your first meeting with your adviser.
- Introductions – Reintroduce yourself and remind the faculty member that you will be working with him/her as a research assistant through the International Scholars Program.
- Faculty Information Packet - We have provided your faculty adviser with a faculty packet. Note that the packet includes examples of work scholars have done in the past.
- Contract – You should discuss:
§ The projects you will be working on for your adviser
§ Expectations regarding how often you should check in with each other by email
§ A regular meeting schedule
§ The contract due date. Be certain to make a copy for you and one for your faculty adviser.
- Payment Process – Go over the procedure for approval of hours.
- Lunch tickets – Plan to have lunch with your faculty adviser by fall break using the lunch ticket for Garbanzo provided by the Kellogg Institute.
- Check-in Reports – Discuss with your adviser the fact that you will be turning in check-in reports at the mid-semester point as well as at the end of semester to keep the Institute informed of your progress.
- Meetings – Determine a regular meeting time.
