2019 North Carolina 4-H Awards Handbook
Achievement Plan- This plan will help you set goals and make plans to reach them. You will learn about 4-H and challenge yourself to achieve great things through this organization. With each new level you achieve, you will be recognized at the county 4-H achievement night.
Application, Interview, Resume & Essay (AIRE)- A program designed to help older teens prepare for interviews for future careers and scholarships. State winners have opportunities to win trips to National 4-H conferences. Application/Resume due by May 1 each year to Orange County 4-H.
Portfolio- Youth complete a three year record book showing their participation in 4-H programs, goals, and accomplishments. There are two age categories: 13-15 and 16-18. Portfolios can focus on projects in 22 categories. Applications are due to Orange County 4-H in January of each year.
Project Record Book- Youth complete a record book that outlines their work in their 4-H project area with an emphasis on goals, accomplishments, citizenship activities, community service activities, and leadership development. Youth compete in one of four categories: 8-10, 11-12, 13-15, 16-18. There is also a non-competitive category for students 5 to 7 years of age called Cloverbuds (click here for record book form). Record books are due to Pender County 4-H in the beginning of each year and represent a full year of work. Contact the 4-H Agent for specific due dates.
Presentations-Youth participate in public speaking presentations individually or with a partner to demonstrate how to perform a skill while education others about their topic. Age divisions are 8-10, 11-13, and 14-18. The first competition is held at County Activity Day in May. The winners in each age division and category will move on to District Activity Day in June. The silver & gold medal winners at DAD will move on to State Presentation Finals in July.
*Due to COVID-19, the 2020 competition will be through recorded videos. 4-H Entertains & Outdoor Cooking will be held at a later date.*
North Carolina 4-H Club Community Service Award- This award recognizes 4-H clubs for their planning and implementation of community service projects. All 4-H clubs are encouraged to apply. One club application will be selected from our county and will be sent to the state level for consideration. Applications are due by February 15.
North Carolina 4-H Scholarship Program- Competitive scholarships are awarded annually by North Carolina 4-H to graduating high school seniors who have excelled within 4-H and in their academics. Applications are due to Pender County 4-H by January 24, 2020.
