We are excited that you have chosen to learn more about one of our nation's greatest youth development programs. Over 6 million young people are already involved across the nation.
4-H is a youth development program administered by North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service for youth between the ages of 5 and 18. North Carolina Cooperative Extension is a collaborative effort between the state's land-grant universities, North Carolina State University and North Carolina A&T State University, and county government to bring research-based information to citizens in the community.
The mission of 4-H is to help youth grow and develop through learn-by-doing experiences. The mission of North Carolina Cooperative Extension is "to help create prosperity for North Carolina through programs and partnerships focused on agriculture and food, health and nutrition, and 4-H youth development".
Head, Heart, Hands and Health, are the four H's in 4-H and they are the four values members develop through fun and engaging programs. There are a wide variety of opportunities that await you. From community service activities, after school programs, competitions, livestock shows, 4-H clubs, and even camps and conferences, you will have extraordinary opportunities to grow and develop as a leader. Learn about topics that interest you from robotics and computer programming to food and nutrition. You can be as involved as you would like to be. Staff at the Pender County Cooperative Extension Office along with your club leaders are available to point you in the direction you choose.
Check out our Pender County 4-H clubs page and see if any of them interest you. Send the leader of the club an email and make plans to join them for an upcoming meeting. If you don't feel a connection with a club, you can work on your own individual project through 4-H and still participate in all the great opportunities we have available. Starting a new 4-H club is an option as well and our staff will be glad to walk you through that process if you are interested.
