Practitioners at the Dottie Rose Foundation and researchers from North Carolina State University partner to engage disadvantaged communities in North Carolina with data-driven advocacy for environmental and climate justice. This project will develop usable educational climate models and simulations tools to understand climate change and create pathways for the communities to engage with local and state government to advocate for changes that address environmental and climate justice. Leadership-oriented summer programs, activities, and curricula will engage middle schools, teachers, students, and their families. Through these programs the communities will learn about and advocate for community change to lessen the climate impacts, come up with mitigation/adaptation actions that is specific to their communities or other communities of interest. They also will learn about civic action and use this to advocate for the climate change/environmental justice issues of interest.
