I am a licensed K-6 Elementary Education teacher. I earned my Masters in Elementary Education in 2007. I have worked for 5 years as an elementary teacher in grades 3 and 4. I have been working as a University Supervisor for 10 years with NC State University.
Dr. Sarah Cannon serves as edTPA Coordinator and Lecturer in in the Department of Teacher Education and Learning Sciences at North Carolina State University. Originally from Kinston, North Carolina, Dr. Cannon holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and National Board Certification in English Language Arts (Adolescence and Young Adulthood). She is currently interested in how to best support teacher candidates during a standardized performance-based assessment, the intersection of the standards movement with the critical need for multicultural education, and writing instruction as a tool for social justice.
Monica Coles joined Swift Creek Elementary School as a fifth grade teacher in 2007. Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Elementary Education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1995. In 2006, she earned a second Bachelor of Arts and Teaching Certification in Elementary Education. She was nominated New Teacher of the Year in 2008, and has been a Site-based teacher educator since 2010. Over the past four years, she has assumed the role of Grade Level Chair and is currently School Improvement Plan (SIP) co-chair.
Dr. Cyndi Edgington is an assistant teaching professor in the mathematics education program at NC State. She is a former Wake County high school math teacher and received her PhD in 2014. She currently teaches courses in our undergraduate and graduate programs, and coordinates the student teaching experiences for our mathematics education students.
Dr. Erin Thomas Horne is the Assistant Director of Professional Education and a Teaching Assistant Professor in the Department of Teacher Education and Learning Sciences at N.C. State University. A former elementary school teacher, she holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Developmental Supervision and is Nationally Board Certified as a Middle Childhood Generalist. Her research focuses include beginning teacher retention and new teacher induction.
Kari Kuebel currently teaches two courses for the Department of Elementary Education at NC State University. She also co-facilitates the Summer Institute for Cooperating Teachers, co-sponsored with the SUCCEED at Mentoring and Coaching program, each year to better prepare our cooperating teachers to work with elementary student teachers in our program. Prior to her work at NCSU, she taught fourth and then third grades in North Carolina and in Ohio.
Chantal Lerebours is a graduate student in the Curriculum and Instruction Masters Program. Her area of concentration is Curriculum and Developmental Supervision. She is currently working on a thesis on reflective practice. Chantal is a former Durham Public School middle grades teacher, department chair, and board member of the North Carolina Association of the Gifted and Talented.
Bethany V. Smith is he Associate Director of Instructional Technology Training for The Distance Education and Learning Technologies Applications Group (DELTA) under the Provost's Office at NC State University. As Associate Director, Bethany provides oversight of DELTA training programs as well as delivers workshops on best practices for technology integration. Previously, she worked at the College of Education at NC State University, where she held various positions for over 13 years. Her passion is to assist current and future educators in integrating technology effectively in their classrooms, both online and face-to-face. Bethany also travels the state and country giving presentations and facilitating workshops on various educational technology topics.
Carey Smith is the founder and director of the Center for Embodied Teacher Education and co-director of Body Therapy Institute in Siler City, NC. She is a master teacher trainer, somatic coach and creator of The Spirit of Learning® - A Teacher Certification Program for Massage, Somatic and Healthcare Educators. Over the past three decades, she has provided teacher training, team building and motivational programs for public and private schools, as well as professional conferences.
Melanie Smith is a clinical instructor in the Curriculum and Developmental Supervision Masters Program in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at NC State. Before coming to NC State she was a second grade teacher at Washington Elementary in downtown Raleigh and a mentor trainer for WCPSS. She holds a BA in Communication and an MEd in Curriculum and Instruction from N.C. State.
