Up until recently, advising has used the theory and philosophy of other fields to inform advising theories. As we move forward, advising is moving towards creating our own philosophy and theories within the field itself. Advising has mainly pulled the theories/philosophies from best practices in teaching, psychology, human development, and student development as you'll see over the course of this module.
