There may be many times when you might just pull from one of these 5 advising theories, it is more likely that you’ll use a combination or flow between multiple approaches within one advisement appointment. A key is to keep trying different approaches until you find the one that best fits you and the situation.

The Advising Theory Survey is designed to guide a conversation with you and your supervisor about the theories and space where you may need additional assistance in building the theory into practice.
