In this presentation I will discuss pain, oral health and the oral microbiome and how this fits into the paradigm of holistic health assessment and care. I will draw on unique findings from my research and expand this to other applications.
Dr Sharon Erdrich recently completed her PhD at the University of Sydney, demonstrating expertise in online survey development, scale validation, and microbiome research. Her doctoral work, focusing on fibromyalgia, revealed novel links between oral health, the oral microbiome, and chronic pain. Her MHSc (Nutrition, University of Auckland) involved a clinical study on dietary impact on DNA damage and inflammation in men with prostate cancer.SE is a registered nurse (NZRGON), registered nutritionist (NSNZ) and current NMHNZ memberAn educator since 2003, SE designs and delivers content in nutrition and medical sciences. In 2022, she developed and taught an AQF-level 8 course, The Human Microbiome and Health, at Southern Cross University, where she holds an adjunct academic appointmentSE has published 12 manuscripts (10 as first author), plus 1 currently under review. She has co-authored a book chapter on gastrointestinal health, and one on nutrition in oral health, plus a dietary guide hosted by the University of Auckland. Her H-index is 7, with 297 citations to date.Sharon was invited to present at the 2023 Myofascial Pain Symposium (Italy) by Prof. Robert Gerwin, with a return invitation for 2025. Sharon has a robust background in clinical and research experience across primary, secondary, and community health.
