Science

Science is the study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment, including Chemistry, Earth Science, Life Science, and Physical Science. Many curriculums focus on a single subject area, while others include multiple topics. Your adviser can help you select the curriculum that is the best fit for you and your child.

Mystery Science: Every scientific conclusion began as a mystery. Someone wondered something about the world, and they set out to investigate it. At Mystery Science, we believe that if you take a child’s questions seriously and help them to investigate, their natural curiosity will develop into a scientific perspective on the world. Click for Units: Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5. Grades K-5.

Science Weekly: Studies Weekly standards-based curriculum applies a balanced literacy approach to education. The combination of printed weekly units and web-based primary source media, audio reader and other features creates a high level of student engagement. Teacher-created lesson plans include rigorous and relevant assessment, word study, writing prompts, reading (modeled, shared, guided, and independent) and much more. Grades K-6.

Picture Perfect Science: Picture-Perfect Science program features ready-to-teach elementary science lessons designed to help families integrate science and reading in an engaging, kid-friendly way. They provide easy-to-grasp background in Physical Science, Life Science, Earth and Space Sciences, and Engineering Practices. Step-by-step teaching notes, student pages, internet resources, assessments, suggestions for further inquiry, and more books to read are also included. Grades K-5.

The Curious Kid's Science Book: your child will learn to design his or her own science investigations to determine the answers! Children will learn to ask their own scientific questions, discover value in failed experiments, and -- most importantly -- have a blast with science. The 100+ hands-on activities in the book use household items to playfully teach important science, technology, engineering, and math skills. Each creative activity includes age-appropriate explanations and (when possible) real life applications of the concepts covered. Grades K-2.

For Kids Science: introduces children to people, events, and ideas that have changed the world; the books in the For Kids series are written in a straightforward and accessible manner. They feature hands-on activities that extend the learning with interdisciplinary activities featuring writing, art, math, and science. Designed and illustrated with photographs and line drawings throughout, each book in the series includes interesting sidebars on the people and ideas that influenced the subject and their contemporaries in the field. Each book also includes a timeline, glossary, index, and resource section listing websites, books, and museums for further exploration. Titles here. Grades K-8.

E=McQ Classic Science: Mr. Q is a high school math teacher who writes curriculum for homeschooling families on classic science topics. His units on Life Science, Earth Science, Physics, and Chemistry are fun, easy to follow, and full of content! THIS CURRICULUM IS PRINTABLE AND AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY!

Building Science Foundations: three volumes comprise a complete science program for kindergarten through eighth grade that builds a solid science foundation step-by-step. Volume I is written for students in kindergarten through second grade. Volume II targets grades three through five, while Volume III is for grades six through eight. Each level has four “threads” that are taught in tandem: The Nature of Matter, Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth and Space. Major ideas and concepts are digested into easy-to-follow, individual lessons that build logically and systematically. By following this logical, steppingstone-like sequence, each new lesson provides a natural review and reinforcement of what has gone before and leads to a solid, integrated knowledge and understanding of the whole. Each volume covers a three-year span, so you will not normally complete any of the threads in a single year. Grades K-8

Interactive Science Activity Books (Pearson/Savvas): this is a supplemental lab book designed for the home environment. The workbooks provide students with a student-centered approach to scientific discovery. Each hands-on activity presents a challenging question that can be investigated and explored independently or with parent guidance. Following the directed inquiry, the child will be given an opportunity to expand and demonstrate scientific reasoning by modifying the investigation and designing their own experiments to illustrate the concept. This is a great supplement to unit studies Grades K-8.

Elevate Science (Savvas): this program starts with real-world, observable phenomena, like weather, robots, oil spills, and space travel. It’s authentic science, science that gets students questioning, problem solving, and engineering solutions through inquiry and evidence. Elevate Science brings three-dimensional learning to your classroom. It's the science of doing. Grades K-8.

REAL Science Odyssey: Each book of RSO level one is a complete one-year science curriculum. Each topic is presented in an entertaining story-like format and is followed by hands-on activities along with background science information, parent instructions, labs, reading lists, journaling ideas, and websites. It is written specifically for home school and small group use. Packed full of serious science and loads of fun, it is an incremental program that gently builds on itself and incorporates mathematics and scientific terminology. Created with the science novice in mind, you don't need any science background to teach these courses. Available courses: Life Science; Earth & Space; Chemistry; Physics. Grades 1-6.

Real Science Odyssey Biology 2: a comprehensive biology course designed to meet and exceed the National Science Education Standards for life science at the middle school level. Level Two courses are uniquely designed to bring high school-level concepts to middle school-aged children. This is designed as an “independent” course; meaning the student text is written to the student. Teacher Guides are available for each course and highly recommended. Student must be reading at a 7th grade level or above. Student text includes:Entertaining Illustrated Lessons - intended to engage students and encourage critical thinking and analytical skills; Famous Science Series - biography essay assignments of; influential scientists and discoveries; Labs and Formal Lab Reports; Microscope Labs; Show What You Know - science vocabulary and lesson review; Activities; Poems; Writing and Research Assignments. Grades 6-8.

The Science of Climate Change--A Hands-On Course: uses text and eighteen hands-on activities to explain and teach the science of global warming and climate change, how humans are responsible, and what can be done to slow or stop the rate of global warming and climate change. This book is a complete, comprehensive guide to an essential environmental topic. Grades 4-8.

Geology Rocks! geology's basics are explored in a lively fashion and are accompanied by a combination of familiar and not-so-familiar experiments and activities.
