How many of you have been corrected by your child, when you ask how “gym” was today or what did you do in “gym” today? It’s okay to admit that you call it gym. We all grew up calling it gym and it’s almost natural just to call it that.
However, here at Memorial it is NOT your typical “gym” class you may have had growing up. Many students do not even know what or how to play “dodgeball”. Crazy isn’t it? As much of a fun game that dodgeball maybe it is not what we do.
As the Physical Education teacher it is my responsibility to physically educate your children at his/or her own abilities. Knowing each child learns differently and allowing each student to strive in all fitness domains means a lot to me. We have a variety of Units and Lessons in which students excel in many different ways.
Sometimes in class it’s not just about what we are doing but the underlying factors of teamwork, responsibility, cooperation, problem solving, being leaders and role models, having a growth mindset and life lessons that sometimes we take for granted on a day to day basis.
I expect a lot from my students. They all know this. My high expectations are sometimes intimidating- however, I know each student can achieve certain goals they set for themselves if they try, if they keep with it, if they do not give up, and most of all if they always have a positive attitude going into any lesson we are doing.
