Extended Practicum in Marketing
In Principles of Business, Marketing, & Finance, students will focus on economies and private enterprise systems. The course will also introduce the concepts of the impact of global business, the marketing of goods and services, advertising, and product pricing. Students will learn how to analyze the sales process and begin to grasp the fundamentals of financial management principles.
In the Marketing course, students will explore the seven core functions of marketing including marketing planning, marketing-information management, pricing, product/service management, channel management, and selling. Students will demonstrate their knowledge in hands-on projects which may include conducting research, creating a promotional plan, pitching a sales presentation, and introducing an idea for a new product/service.
The Practicum in Marketing 2-period course is designed to give students supervised practical application of previously studied knowledge and skills. Practicum experiences occur in a paid or unpaid arrangement and within a variety of locations appropriate to the nature and level of experience. Students implement personal and interpersonal skills to strengthen individual performance in the workplace and in society to make a successful transition to the workforce or postsecondary education. Students will gain knowledge and skills that help them to be proficient in one or more of the marketing functional areas associated with distribution, financing, marketing information management, pricing, product planning, promotion, purchasing, risk management, and selling skills. Students will integrate skills from academic subjects, information technology, interpersonal communication, and management training to make responsible decisions.
Entrepreneurship and Small Business is a certification delivered by Certiport, sponsored by Intuit and the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, that ensures tomorrow's leaders are prepared with the toolkit they need to get ahead in today's competitive landscape. Whether you are starting a bakery or launching the next billion dollar startup, ESB validates a students' understanding of core business principles, including the essentials needed to launch and maintain a successful business.
Candidates for ESB certification will be expected to have key conceptual knowledge of entrepreneurial and small business principles through at least 150 hours of instruction. Please note that it is not required for students to have real-world experience as a small business manager in order to take and pass the exam. Successful completion of this certification will validate the skills and knowledge for those students interested in working in a middle-skill trade profession as their own boss and those with entrepreneurship and small business career aspirations.
