The Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR) career cluster focuses on the essential elements of life food, water, land, and air. This career cluster includes a diverse spectrum of occupations, ranging from farmer, rancher, and veterinarian to geologist, land conservationist, and florist. It also includes non-traditional agricultural occupations like wind energy, solar energy, and oil and gas production.Â
The animal science program focuses on the science, research, and business of animals and other living organisms. It teaches CTE learners how to apply biology and life science to the real-world life processes of animals and wildlife, either in laboratories or in the field; which could include farm, a veterinary office, or any other area harboring animal life. Students may also research and analyze the growth and destruction of species and research or diagnose disease and injuries of animals.
The applied agricultural engineering program explores the occupations and educational opportunities associated with power and machinery, electrification, structures, soil and water conservation, and processing agricultural products. This program of study may also include exploration into diagnosing, repairing, or overhauling farm machinery and vehicles, such as tractors, harvesters, diary equipment and irrigation systems.
Leadership Development Events focus on creating situations for members to demonstrate their abilities in public speaking, decision making, communication and their knowledge of agriculture and the FAA organization. Team and individual events are used to reinforce what is taught in agricultural science classrooms.
Career Development Events build on what is learned in agricultural classes and encourage members to put their knowledge into practice. These events are designed to help a member prepare for a career in agriculture by testing and challenging the student's technical, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills as well as their knowledge of the subject matter.

FFA develops members’ potential and helps them discover their talent through hands-on experiences, which give members the tools to achieve real-world success.
Members are future farmers, chemists, veterinarians, government officials, entrepreneurs, bankers, international business leaders, teachers and premier professionals in many career fields.
FFA is an extracurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. It is one of the three components of agricultural education.
