Principles of agriculture, food and natural resources in an introductory course that introduces FFA, leadership, and the three pathways offered in the Ag Science career cluster.
1 Semester Course
Turf Grass Management is designed to develop an understanding of turf grass management techniques and practices. To prepare for careers in horticultural systems, students must attain academic skills and knowledge, acquire technical knowledge and skills related to horticultural systems and the workplace, and develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations.

Landscape Design and Management is designed to develop an understanding of landscape design and management techniques and practices. To prepare for careers in horticultural systems, students must attain academic skills and knowledge, acquire technical knowledge and skills related to horticultural systems and the workplace, and develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations.
For professionals who install or maintain landscape projects and desire to have higher caliber skills and knowledge.
Introduction to the horticulture industry and the career opportunities that are available. This course includes an introduction to plant classification and structure, greenhouse construction and management, orchard and vegetable crops, and plant propagation.
Introduction to the floral industry and the career opportunities that are available. This course includes building on floral design elements, floral business management, implementation of business practices by creating designs for events. A Level 1 Hands on Certification through Texas State Florists may be obtained in this course.
BASF is proud to offer the BASF Plant Science Certification which is designed to prepare the future leaders of plant and agricultural sciences. The certification verifies individuals have acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in a variety of plant, natural and environmental science related fields.
Leadership Development Events focus on creating situations for members to demonstrate their abilities in public speaking, decision making, communication and their knowledge of agriculture and the FAA organization. Team and individual events are used to reinforce what is taught in agricultural science classrooms.
Career Development Events build on what is learned in agricultural classes and encourage members to put their knowledge into practice. These events are designed to help a member prepare for a career in agriculture by testing and challenging the student's technical, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills as well as their knowledge of the subject matter.
FFA is a dynamic youth organization that changes lives and prepares members for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
FFA develops members’ potential and helps them discover their talent through hands-on experiences, which give members the tools to achieve real-world success.
Members are future farmers, chemists, veterinarians, government officials, entrepreneurs, bankers, international business leaders, teachers and premier professionals in many career fields.
FFA is an extracurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. It is one of the three components of agricultural education.
