In the summer of 2025 there were two problems brought to the attention of the Western Regions Committee:
Member Safety - A member had attended a few meetings while her loved one was threatening violence in the background.
Meeting Safety - A member had attended many recovery and many service meetings exhibiting disruptive and threatening behavior.
The Committee formed a work group to find ways to support the members whether at home or in meetings. The results from that effort are summarized below.
The Western Regions Safety Work Group meets every Wednesday at 5:00 pm Pacific Time. Send an email to wrcnfg@gmail.com if you would like to attend one of our meetings.

The link connects to a web page created as a demonstration of how CAL can be posted on a web page for quick access by a member helping another member during a crisis.
We sent the link to the WSB asking them to approve adding a page like this to the WS website.
We believe this is moving forward.
Support a member in crisis during a virtual meeting
A document was created and shared explaining how to move a member into a breakout room so that the member can receive individualized attention without disrupting the meeting.
This document was posted on the Meeting Safety page on the Western Regions website.
We sent a copy of the document to the WS Newsletter asking them to consider publishing it.
Draft version is accessible here
The Safety First document is on the WS Literature Priority List, but it had not been supported with additional member writings.
The Safety Work Group edited and expanded the document.
We submitted the revised document to WS LitCom.
This is in the queue for LitCom, but it will take a while to become CAL.
Selected CAL is viewable online
We set a query to the WSB. The reply indicated we should follow the Copyright section in the GWS.
Everything on these table cards is CAL.
We sent WSO a sample table card with the member safety and meeting safety readings.
We sent WSO a sample table card with the Third Step Prayer and Prayer for the Growth.
This was followed by emails and meetings with WSO, WS LitCom, and the WSB.
Members will follow up with the WSB. Is this just an updated format rather than being new literature?
Groups can print and display or screen share, awaiting decision on whether WSO will publish or sell these items.
Updates this week
We posted the two page printable table card on the Safety page on the WRCNFG website.
We posted the screen shareable safety slides on the Safety page on the WRCNFG website.
Future
We can create a motion to add to the WSO screen share slides.
The goal is to turn the 4th Step Personal Safety checklist into a pamphlet because that is more accessible to new members than is the 4th Step Workbook.
We created a draft to show formatting options.
Western Regions Safety Work Group reviewed the prototype, but cannot share the document because it is copyright protected.
We sent an email to WS LitCom with our suggestions and a request for recommendations on how to proceed.
A Safe Exit button allows a member to quickly close a Nar-Anon website and bring up a website that may be less triggering to a hostile observer. This should be a floating button that is always visible and not a menu entry or fixed button that would require scrolling.

Updates this week
The Western Regions website is built with Google Sites. We researched this and ran some tests. Google Sites does not allow this functionality. You cannot force an external website to replace the current view. You can open an external website, but it will always open in a new tab leaving the current web page visible.
Future
Although Google Sites does not support this functionality, we can document the goal and send the request to various website committees so they can explore what is possible on their websites.
Future
We can consider a motion for WSC 2027 when we have suitable wording to add a Safety Statement into the Suggested Meeting Format within the Nar-Anon Guide to Local Services.

Some preliminary information is posted on the Western Regions Meeting Safety page.
Future
Review and revise this material.
Decide if there is an additional way to share this information.
Consider holding a roundtable regarding Member Safety and Meeting Safety.
