There's a lot in the Canvas section. Make sure you shop around to get what you need. Typically, if you have a question or need to know, someone else before you has too. And that means I've most likely put something on this site to address it. Here are the subpages in this Teacher Canvas section.
Canvas is a cloud-based learning management system. It can be used to instruct and communicate on a 24-hour basis and will be used to create a fluid, collaborative and engaging learning experience.
To get started I recommend the Canvas Basics Guide. It contains:
Course organization makes and breaks courses and is ultimately what sets your students up for success or failure. Modules are the heavy lifter of Canvas course organization. They determine your course flow and access. Some people think of them as digital "folders" of different types of Canvas course content. They can be created based on periods of time or units of study.
Modules are the foundation of courses
Content: The Pages, Assignments, Quizzes, Discussions, and other course content are built out of the Module.
Composition: Text headers and general Module formatting like indenting are the things that make Modules more easily understood.
Having both content and composition in a logical order makes for a more enjoyable experience for both you and your students.
Having a good idea of what you want to share with students, how & when is the hardest part of course construction. Once you have a plan, the building part goes quickly!

I like this graphic (see right) because it gets you to think about the best ways to share and construct course content. Of course there are many tools that can be used in Canvas, but each tool is better at doing certain tasks more than others. When I create course content, I ask myself questions like:
Do I want to take a grade for this?
Do I want to give information and am less interested in a grade?
Do I want something to grade my assignment automatically?
Do I need something to improve the flow of my Module?
Is there something I need to include as a "just in case" reinforcement resource?
Do I want the content to be directly embedded in something where I can give more info or is it something that would be best served as a link or file?
