There are multiple relationships throughout this novel whether it be a loving connection or a friendship. One main friendship that caught my eye was Aech and Wade’s friendship. They have know each other for a pretty long time and get along pretty well even though they haven’t met each other in the “real world” quite yet. To me it seems they act as if there wasn’t a disconnection between the 2 of them.
This can also been seen between Daito and Shoto. Both of them were so close that they considered themselves "brothers" in the Oasis. They worked together through the Easter egg hunt, until IOI threw one of them off of one of their balconies. This has made the "High-five" more cautious about their whereabouts and it caused Shoto to seek revenge on IOI.
Everyone on the Oasis creates an Avatar and the avatar represents who that specific person will look like in the Oasis. People get to be who they want to be and hide whatever they want to hide because no one will know that that really isn’t the real you. It sort of shifts who the person really is because they can pretend to be someone they are not or as Art3mis said, you only know the me that I show you.
This can also been seen when Wade isolated himself from the outside world pretending to be a completely different person. He created a new identity of a person called Bryce Lynch. He is again trying to pretend to be someone that he is not.
Wade has had a lot of bad and negative experiences in his life. He has experienced most of his life without his parents due to both of his parent’s deaths and he doesn’t live in the best living environment. He lives with his aunt in a trailer and in the book it stated that she only took him in to stay with her because she was going to get food stamps. Wade sleeps in the laundry room. I believe that this also motivates Wade to want to do better and motivates him to find the Easter Egg because he really doesn’t have anything to lose.
