Characters

Halliday:

The creator of the Oasis who later reveals to the public that there is a hidden Easter egg after his death. His avatar in the Oasis appears once someone completes the task to obtain the key or to open a new gate.

Wade:

The main character throughout this book. He was born on August 12, 2024. He is in high school and graduates in less than a week. Both of his parents died when he was at a young age. He lives with his aunt in a trailer in Oklahoma City. They don’t have a good relationship. He is shy in the real world, but more open and “cool” when he plays throughout the Oasis. He was the 1st person to get onto the ScoreBoard.

Aech:

One of Wade’s best friends. They have known each other for a long time (Only through the Oasis, not real life). He was the 3rd person to get onto the Scoreboard and he is pretty wealthy in the Oasis.

Art3mis:

She is 19 years old and studying Poetry and Creative Writing in college. She was the 2nd person to reach the Scoreboard due to Wade giving her a hint.

The Sixters (IOI):

A group that is trying to find the Halliday’s Easter Egg. They plan to make the Oasis “Pay to Win”. The leader is Sorrento and he trys to blackmail Wade in to telling him how to get the copper key and open the first gate. He threatens him by blowing up the area of where his Aunt’s trailer is located at.

Bryce Lynch:

He is a fake identity that Wade uses to hide his identity from IOI. He gets an apartment and isolated himself from the entire outside world to focus ONLY on the key. This didn't turn out well due to his recent friendship break up with Art3mis. He was so hung up on Art3mis that he couldn't really focus on the meaning on the clues for the hunt. Bryce Lynch eventually gets caught up indenturement and IOI takes him to pay off his debt.
