Connections

Throughout level 1 there are multiple references to what is going on in there world compared to the current real life events that are going on. Some of the references that I noticed were:

There are many MANY 80’s references throughout Ready Player One.
The Oasis and the internet are considered synonyms. People are seen to be on the Oasis as much as people are on their phones (at least in our current generation).
Wade stated that there was or has been an Oil Crisis going on.

There has been news stories in the past that stated that we are running low on Oil.

Everyone being addicted to the Oasis. This can be comparable to everyone having access to a smart device. Throughout my experiences looking at individuals, they are addicted to their smart devices and it is starting to become what it is in the Oasis.

Haptic Suit/Gloves

In the novel there is a real life item called the haptic suit, it allows the user to feel what is happenning in the game at the time. There are also haptic gloves that allow the user "to touch" items in the specific game that the user is playing.

Virtual Reality

In the novel VR is basically the "normal", it is very common for someone to own one and use one on a daily basis. A new VR has recently been released by the CEO of Facebook which is called the Oculus Quest (The video trailer is below).
