A student’s Grade Point Average (GPA) is a significant measure of a student’s academic success in high school, and most universities consider GPA a very important component of a student’s academic profile for admission.
The North Broward Preparatory School GPA includes all core academic courses, all AP, IB courses, and some fine arts courses that have significant academic content and written assessments.
NBPS weighs grades, offering a greater GPA reward to students who engage in a more rigorous academic program.
For a detailed description of how our College Prep, Honors, and Accelerated courses differ in terms of content, process, and work products see the explanation in this catalog.
Note: Most universities recalculate a student’s GPA using their own weighting systems. Additionally, some universities’ GPA calculations include different courses from the ones that NBPS includes. The most selective colleges tend to include only academic courses. If you are concerned about how your GPA will be calculated by a particular university, contact their admissions office or your college advisor.
Courses that do not carry the distinction of “Honors” or “Accelerated” are considered College Prep. Courses named “Honors” are weighted at honors level. Each Course’s GPA distinction is listed in its description.
The following courses are “accelerated.”
1. All AP Courses
2. All IB Courses
3. Scientific Research course
4. Advanced Swift Programming (Post AP Course)
