Since the 1998-99 school year, students at North Broward Preparatory School have enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
The purpose of the Advanced Placement Program is to offer high school students the equivalent of a one-semester university-level course.
Many universities reward the successful completion of an AP examination with exemptions from introductory-level classes and/or credits towards graduation.
Students take AP examinations in May.
Most of the AP exams combine multiple-choice questions with a free-response section in either essay or problem-solving format.
AP Studio Art and AP Music have other components, unique to these two disciplines. There is a fee for every AP examination, and this fee is indicated in the course description. Failure to sit for an AP exam may result in loss of credit for the class.
North Broward Preparatory School has been an accredited IB World School since 2008.
The IB program was designed for the purpose of developing a universal two-year high-school curriculum that provides appropriate challenges to students with a broad range of abilities, interests, cultural backgrounds, and nationalities.
Taken as individual certificates, these courses may result in university recognition and credit.
All IB courses require a combination of examinations, which students take in May, and a portfolio of relevant student work.
There is a fee for every IB examination, and there is also a registration fee. These fees are written in detail in the course description.
Failure to sit for an IB exam or complete any IB Internal Assessment may result in loss of credit for the class. Click HERE For detailed information about the IB here at NBPS.
Fees Associated with Enrolling in IB classes
Students enrolled in IB courses will be assessed a registration fee of $175.00. This is a one-time fee for students enrolling in one or more courses. This registration fee is separate from the exam fee required for each course which is $120.00.
Taken as part of the IB Diploma, IB courses comprise a rigorous, internationally and nationally-recognized program of study.
During this two-year program, students study six subjects chosen from at least five different subject groups, complete an extended essay, take a theory of knowledge course (TOK), and participate in creativity, action, service (CAS).
Normally three of the six subjects are studied at higher level, and the remaining three subjects are studied at standard level.
As of the publication of this catalog, all students who earn the IB Diploma qualify for the Florida Bright Futures Academic Scholars Award, which is the highest level of Bright Futures scholarship. For more details see the Florida Bright Futures Online Brochure.
