"I loved formal recruitment. I got to meet so many new people. Since I went through formal recruitment I got to make bonds with people outside of the chapter I ran home to. It gave me an appreciation for each chapter as they all have such unique values and characteristics. It was also fun to dress up, and get to find my new home!"
-Macy Goepper, Delta Zeta
"It was the best time of my life! I met some of my best friends to this day and got to run home with some girls in my gamma chi group! As a senior I can say this was the best decision I have made and I am so glad I have my sisters for life who support me through everything!"
-Kayla Slone, Kappa Delta
A Gamma Chi is a sorority recruitment "counselor" who serves as a neutral guide during formal recruitment. They support potential new members by offering advice, answering questions, and ensuring a positive experience, while temporarily disaffiliating from her own chapter to remain unbiased throughout the recruitment process.
"My experience as a Gamma Chi was unreal. I was able to have a new perspective on Recruitment and loved every minute of it. I wouldn't have changed a thing and now I feel closer to our Panhellenic community and my own chapter as well."
-Kylie Frederick, Alpha Omicron Pi
"It was the best thing I could have done as a Greek woman! I loved leading a group of women through their sorority experience and helping them through the emotional highs and lows. Being a Gamma Chi also helped me get closer to my own chapter!"
-Piper Bollen, Delta Gamma
The Sisterhood Rounds of sorority recruitment allows potential new members to learn more about each chapter’s values, traditions, and bonds between members. It highlights what makes each sisterhood unique and gives PNMs a deeper look at daily chapter life, friendships, and the supportive community they could become part of.
The Philanthropy Round of recruitment focuses on each sorority’s national or local philanthropic cause. Potential new members learn about the chapter’s service work, fundraising events, and community impact. This round showcases the values-driven side of sorority life and helps PNMs find a chapter whose mission resonates with their passions.
The Preference Round is the final and most personal round of sorority recruitment. Potential new members revisit up to two chapters and experience a deeper, more meaningful ceremony that reflects the chapter’s core values and sisterhood. This round helps PNMs decide where they feel the strongest connection before making their final choice.
Bid Day is the exciting final day of sorority recruitment when potential new members receive invitations—called bids—to join a chapter. It’s a celebration filled with cheers, matching shirts, and welcoming energy as new members officially meet their sisters and begin their journey in Greek life. It marks a joyful new beginning.
Continuous Open Bidding (COB) is an informal recruitment process that allows Panhellenic sororities to extend membership invitations outside of the formal recruitment period. This process typically occurs after the primary recruitment season and is available to chapters that have not reached total membership capacity. COB provides a more relaxed and personal opportunity for potential new members to meet with sorority members, learn about each chapter, and find a sisterhood that aligns with their values. It is a great option for students who prefer a flexible timeline or missed formal recruitment, allowing them to join a sorority at their own pace.
Grace Copfer, DZ (Left)
"AMAZING! The girls were so flexible and fun to talk to. I had a chance to talk to 90% of the chapters before I made my decision. What stood out is how many similarities DZ had within my personal life." -Grace Copfer (Delta Zeta)
"I loved my experience COBing! Everyone was so so welcoming and getting to talk to my president at the time was super helpful and made me understand the entire experience overall!" -Karah Miller (Kappa Delta)
