This is the movie poster I created in Graphic Design class, one of the last assignments before Christmas. To the left is the one I created and to the right is my inspiration poster. I took this poster as inspiration because of the way the characters are looking at each other. For me, the love story was a little more dramatic, so I added rips (of paper) to dramatize it. The main reason this was my inspiration was because of how the characters connect and the fact that they face each other.
Now you may be looking at my artwork and thinking that there's not so much to it. But that was the point! I had so many crazy cool ideas but when I tried them out they didn't work. My movie poster looked so fake and it wasn't me. I wanted to make an action movie but soon realized my designs don't reflect that genre. So I went into romance, something simpler and more in my type of style. To begin I have 2 of my actors that are facing each other, representing the love they feel for each other. I had the tears of paper to symbolize the tearing apart of their relationship.
This movie is about (Blurb): After knowing each other for years, Abigail and Chris get into a huge argument and decide to never see each other again. As they move on they soon start to ignore one another and hope to never see each other again. One day Chris and Abigail must work together to save their lives. Will they risk their lives for their feelings or work together?
I decided that the name "Farewell," was perfect for a romance story and it also corresponded greatly with my story! I used these two actors because they are pretty famous and I found the perfect pictures to create this artwork. The crossing of the eyes represents the pain they feel for each other, but this couldn't have been done without these pictures. Their eyes look into each other representing their hatred (disagreement) for each other and they aren't smiling because they are hurt. I put the idea of the double tear because this heartbreak affected both. And that it was both of their doings, in other words, it wasn't a one-sided conflict.
Now I will talk about my font and color choice. I chose the colors red and pink because in design they symbolize competitiveness but are also used when describing love. I have never seen blue describing love instead, it's always red. Red is the "color of love," because it represents passion and excitement, just like love! Why did I choose these fonts? I felt that a cursive font doesn't fit the scenario. I needed to find something stable but easily flowing but at the same time something heartbreaking. I tried many fonts but they were all too serious or to easygoing, and for me this font was stable. I also felt it fit the whole theme of my poster board and what I wanted to represent.
My age demographic was 20-40 years of age, also known as couples. I think it meets the audience's expectations because when you see the poster you see romance and that's exactly what the movie is showing. In my opinion it is very clear that this a romance story and that anyone who see's the poster knows what it's about!
Be sure to check out your local theaters to watch my movie in early May!
