Ava Dragosh, Sophomore
Hunter Borchardt, Junior
Arden Ziert, Sophomore
Week #7: Hatchet Invitational- (October 12, 2019)
Ava Dragosh, sophomore
“…she really went out aggressively and challenged herself, actually leading the JV race at the mile mark. This paid off for her as she was able to finish with a medalist effort and the biggest PR on the team as she had a career best time by over a minute!”
Hunter Borchardt, Junior
“…after resting Hunter a couple of weeks ago at Three Lakes with some aches and pains he had been dealing with he is coming back from that mini-rest cycle with a vengeance. He ran his two fastest times ever in the past two weeks and is looking smooth and real strong in the process. To earn a spot on the podium today was just icing on the cake for him.”
Arden Ziert, sophomore
“…he has really been stepping it up filling a varsity scoring position for us the last three weeks in a row and running his best times of his young cross-country career in the process. Arden finished with a medalist effort today, picking off 8 runners in the last mile to place 14th. As his base mileage is catching up to him, he is able to utilize the speed he worked on from last spring to his advantage in the later part of his races. His improvement has made our varsity boys’ team stronger!”
Leslie Vance, Fresman
Trey Baalke, Junior
Jack Lacina, Senior
Week #6: Athens Invitational- (October 3, 2019)
Leslie Vance, freshman
“…after having some issues a week ago early in her race at Three Lakes, Leslie had a solid week of practice this week. The result was that everything came together for her, as she had the biggest P.R. of all of our athletes at Athens and improved her team position in the process.”
Trey Baalke, junior
“…Trey has been solid for us all season and after P.R.-ing two weeks in a row (with a nice sub-18 effort at Three Lakes) he once again led our scoring pack of four runners to the finish at Athens. He just runs hard, keeps improving, and is a great role model for the younger athletes.”
Jack Lacina, senior
“…after having a real challenging year last year in his first year out for cross-country with injuries and all, he worked super-hard in the off-season and it really shows. He has been on the cusp of varsity all year and with his finishing kick, solid last 1000 meters, and P.R. effort at Athens was able to earn that spot for our upcoming meet at Edgewater.”
Serena Reinke, Freshman
Noah Buckwalter, Junior
Week #5: Three Lakes Invitational– (September 26, 2019)
Serena Reinke, freshman
“…Serena crushed her P.R. and had the best race of her young career. She is gaining a lot of confidence as she trains and competes with the varsity runners. Her time and place today propels her into a varsity spot for Athens.”
Noah Buckwalter, junior
“…Noah continues to push himself to new levels. He is nearing the sub-17 barrier and PR’d for the second week in a row. He went out fast at Smiley and it paid off and today he had an awesome last 1000 meters. His last 1000 meters was the fastest of any athlete on the team tonight!”
Emily Lacina, Sophomore
Alex Norman, Junior
Week #4: Smiley Invitational- (September 21, 2019)
Emily Lacina, sophomore
“…Emily came down with some type of virus late in the week and even missed practice yesterday. Adding to my concern pre-race in the huddle she looked a bit pale. However, early on she showed no signs of letting anything stop her and her teammates from achieving their goals. What she did today in overcoming obvious obstacles will serve to inspire her teammates throughout the rest of this season.”
Alex Norman, junior
“…Alex got into a nice groove early on and really pushed himself mid-race. He was able to cruise to a new PR by over 20 seconds and gained a lot of confidence in the process. This will benefit not only Alex, but the entire team as we continue to improve and push each other.”
Greata Tjugum, Freshman
Keaton Jed, Senior
Week #3: Shawano Invite- (September 14, 2019)
Greta Tjugum, freshman“…Greta looked like she was on a mission in the first race of the day. She went out aggressively and stayed on top of maintaining her stride and tempo. She really pushed herself to re-establish her varsity position going into Smiley next weekend and had a solid PR in the process.”
Keaton Jed, senior
“…after a big PR last weekend at Freedom, Keaton followed it up by keeping the pack tight and leading the boys to a runner-up D2 title at the meet. He has gained a lot of racing confidence and is using his experience and leg speed to his advantage in competition this year. He’s on the verge of breaking the 18-min 5K barrier, one of his goals this season!”
Kate Reilly, Sophomore
Drew Bolder, Junior
Week #2: Freedom Invite- (September 7, 2019)
Kate Reilly, sophomore
“…we know that a key to our tournament success is closing the gap between our 4th and 5th scoring girl’s runners. Kate made a BIG jump with her effort and closed that gap with a 30-sec PR in the process. She has put a lot of time and effort into her running on a year-round basis and it’s really showing in her results.”
Drew Bolder, junior
“…he looked so strong running with the leaders today, it was a nice confidence builder for him. He has been putting in a lot of extra miles during the first phase of our training this season, so what’s really special is that he accomplished this on tired legs. Less than 20 athletes have cracked the 17-min barrier for a 5K in Hatchet Cross-Country, Drew has now done this twice and I’m sure is not finished! ”
Haley Voermans-Dean, Senior
Garron Albrent, Junior
Week #1: Ashland Invite- (August 29, 2019)
Haley Voermans-Dean, senior
“…knocking over a minute off of last year’s time on this challenging course and making that veteran move on her opponent was fun to watch. She is off to an awesome start in her senior campaign.”
Garron Albrent, junior
“…just before the mile as our pack was making it’s move on Northwestern he was tripped up and fell. To see him not panic and get back into rhythm was a sign of maturity, he’s picking up right where he left off last season. He improved by over 2 minutes on this course from last year.”
