This website and the policies highlighted within outline Glenlyon Norfolk School’s comprehensive framework for the thoughtful, responsible, and human-centred integration of artificial intelligence across teaching, learning, and school operations. Grounded in the school’s core values and strategic vision, this framework is guided by the principles of Human Authority, Intellectual Agency, Privacy & Data Stewardship, Transparency & Attribution, and Responsible Innovation.

Central to our approach is the belief that AI should function as a powerful “co-pilot,” while human judgment, authentic student thinking, creativity, and professional expertise remain at the centre of educational practice. Structured operational policies and AI stoplight frameworks help clarify appropriate AI use for students and staff, while governance structures and the GNS Tech Check process ensure that all approved AI platforms align with the school’s privacy, security, and educational standards.

As AI technologies continue to evolve rapidly, GNS is committed to moving beyond simple AI literacy toward the development of AI fluency: the ability to engage with AI thoughtfully, critically, ethically, and creatively while maintaining strong human oversight and intellectual agency. Our goal is not simply to teach students and staff how to use AI tools, but to help them understand when, why, and how these technologies should be used responsibly in an increasingly AI-enabled world.

This framework also recognizes that AI is becoming increasingly embedded within many of the digital platforms already used in schools and workplaces. As a result, developing critical AI literacy, ethical awareness, and responsible digital citizenship will remain an important part of the learning process for all members of the GNS community.

The policies, frameworks, and resources on this site were developed through many months of staff and community consultation, professional learning, collaborative discussion, and ongoing research. Artificial intelligence tools such as Google Gemini and NotebookLM were used responsibly to help organize information, synthesize themes, support drafting, and refine communication throughout the development process.
