Reading standards place equal emphasis on the sophistication of what students read and the skill with which they read. Reading standards ensure that students engage in text of increasing text complexity that rises from beginning reading to the college and career readiness level. Students read texts in various genres, within both literature and informational text, and develop the growing ability to discern more from and make fuller use of text. Grade level specific standards correspond to the College and Career Readiness (CCR) anchor standards within the following categories: key ideas and details, craft and structure, integration of knowledge and ideas, range of reading and level of text complexity.
