The four walls of our classroom are just the beginning. Through the power of digital technology, you have a 'VIP Pass' to enter the greatest museums on Earth. You can stand inches away from a Van Gogh in Amsterdam, wander through the grand halls of the Louvre in Paris, or explore the modern masterpieces in New York City—all without a plane ticket!"
The Louvre (Paris, France)
What to look for: This was once a royal palace! While everyone flocks to see the Mona Lisa, I want you to look at the Statue Gallery.
The Challenge: Find the Winged Victory of Samothrace. Notice how the artist used Line and Form to make cold, hard marble look like thin, wind-blown fabric. It is one of the greatest technical feats in history!
The Van Gogh Museum (Amsterdam, Netherlands)
What to look for: Vincent didn't just paint; he sculpted with paint.
The Challenge: Zoom in as close as the tour will let you. Look at the Texture. Can you see the individual "dabs" of paint? This is the best place to see the Movement of his brushstrokes up close.
The Uffizi Gallery (Florence, Italy)
What to look for: This is the heart of the Renaissance.
The Challenge: Find Leonardo da Vinci’s Annunciation. Look at the Perspective in the background—how the trees get smaller and the mountains turn blue as they go back in space. Also, look at the grass; Leonardo was a scientist as well as an artist, so he painted every flower with botanical accuracy!
