Finished your project early? Looking for inspiration for your next sketchbook entry? Or maybe you just want to see something 'weird and wonderful' from the history of art? This is your digital library for all things creative. Dive in and see where the 'rabbit hole' takes you!
Since this site is massive, I’ve put together a few 'Missions' for you to try. Whether you want to be an explorer, a gamer, or a scientist, there is something here for you!"
1. The "Art Selfie" (Find Your Twin)
The Mission: Use the Google Arts & Culture app on a tablet or phone to take a selfie. The AI will search thousands of museum portraits to find an artist who painted someone who looks just like you!
The Reflection: Who is your twin? When was the painting made? Do you like the artist's style?
2. The "Art Zoom" Challenge
The Mission: Search for a famous painting (like Van Gogh's Starry Night or Monet’s Water Lilies). Use the "Zoom" tool to go as deep as possible.
What to Look For: Can you see the individual threads of the canvas? Can you see where the paint is cracked? This shows you that these masterpieces are real, physical objects made by human hands.
3. Play "Blob Opera" or "Art Coloring Book"
The Mission: Head to the "Play" tab.
Blob Opera: Create your own opera song while learning about harmony and pitch (it’s surprisingly addictive!).
Art Coloring Book: Pick a famous masterpiece and "re-color" it yourself. What happens to the mood of the painting when you change a blue sky to a bright orange one?
4. 360° Museum Street View
The Mission: Use the "Street View" feature to walk through the White House, the Great Wall of China, or the International Space Station.
The Art Connection: Look for the patterns, colors, and architecture. How does the "Art" of a place change depending on where it is in the world?
5. The "Pocket Gallery" (Augmented Reality)
The Mission: If you are using a mobile device, use the Pocket Gallery to "place" a life-sized art gallery in our classroom. You can literally walk around the paintings as if they were hanging in the air right in front of you!
6. "What Came First?" Game
The Mission: Test your Art History knowledge! The site will show you two artworks, and you have to guess which one was created first. It’s a fun way to see how much you’ve learned from our Children's Book of Art!
The Tate Museum in London is world-famous, but they created Tate Kids just for you! This isn't your average museum website; it’s a place where you can create, play, and destroy (digitally!) to learn how art works.
Sometimes, to understand a painting, you need to see the artist in action or hear the 'secrets' behind the frame. These video channels are my hand-picked favorites for when you want to see how the 'Art Magic' actually happens.
The Art Assignment - Click Here!
The Vibe: Intelligence meets creativity.
Why Watch: This channel tackles the big questions, like "Is a pile of candy actually art?" or "Why is the Mona Lisa so famous?" It challenges you to think critically about the world around you.
The "Assignment" Challenge: Many videos end with a small prompt you can actually do in your sketchbook!
Art21: "Inside the Studio" - Click Here!
The Vibe: Real, raw, and modern.
Why Watch: Have you ever wondered what a professional artist's life looks like? Art21 goes into the real studios of people working today. You’ll see that they make mistakes, they try again, and they use everything from Ceramics and metal to trash and digital code to make their masterpieces.
Mrs. Baumer’s Tip: Look for the "Extended Play" shorts. They are quick 5-minute bursts of pure inspiration.
Mati & Dada - Click Here!
The Vibe: Fun, animated adventures.
Why Watch: Follow Mati, a young girl, and Dada, a quirky character, as they "time travel" to meet famous artists like Vincent van Gogh or Jackson Pollock.
What to Look For: Pay attention to the background music and the animation style—it usually changes to match the artist they are visiting! It’s a great lesson in Unity and Mood.
If you find something absolutely incredible that I haven't listed here, share it with me! I love discovering new corners of the internet and you might just become the teacher for a moment.
