Spelling - You Can Spell Programme

Your child will receive new words each week to practice and learn. These words will come from the spelling programme ‘You Can Spell’. They write their words into their spelling notebooks after a leveled pre-test, therefore they will only be learning words they get incorrect. They will be tested on these words one a week. Students can also play the spelling games that are linked to this site and other games at home to support spelling.

Maths

We encourage you to put some time aside for basic facts practice each week. There are also great sites that you may also want to use. All students have a Prodigy and IXL log in code. Playing snakes and ladders, battleships and card games are also great maths games to play with the family too! Even visiting the supermarket can be an awesome learning experience!

Writing - iWrite

Every fortnight your child will brainstorm ideas, dialogue, characters and genre around a particular prompt (phrase/picture…) these will be displayed in class and on our website. The brainstorm that they have completed at home will guide them through their iWrite time. There is a link on this site for the picture prompt.

Writing can also be - adding to the weekly shopping list/ writing an email/ writing a postcard etc.

Reading

Your child is expected to read for 15-20 mins each night. This could be the newspaper, comic book, picture book, chapter book, letters, maps, diagrams etc! Students will also have a CSI account that their teachers link activities to and visit Kiwi Kids News for exciting up to date current events!

Climb a tree, play a sport, work on a hobby, make a cup of tea for someone, talk together as a family, play games and have fun. These things are really important too!
