Introduction
The Degree Apprenticeship in Dietetics will commence at Sheffield Hallam University in March 2023. This is a new programme. Learners will be based in the workplace and block released for 'off the job learning', which will take place online, following a distance learning model.
Course Structure
The course will take place over three years. The course structure is illustrated in the module overview. There are three practice placements, which occur in each year of the course. These are non-credit bearing, i.e. pass or fail. The placements account for 1000 hours of clinical practice, which is the minimum required to meet Professional and Statutory Body Requirements (PRSB), including the British Dietetic Association (BDA) and the Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC).
There are three different types of modules.
Profession Specific - teaching and learning that happens with dietetic apprentices only
Shared - teaching and learning materials that are shared with other apprentices but with profession specific sessions
Integrated - teaching and learning that happens together with apprentices on other health courses, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, therapeutic radiography, diagnostic radiography, medical ultrasound and operating department practice. More information on integrated teaching and learning can be found here.
