No. All our appointments are self-referral and can be made by completing the booking form, or getting in touch with our reception team at physioclinic@shu.ac.uk or 0114 225 3000 and pressing the # key to speak with the reception team.
Whilst some insurers such as Westfield allow you to claim for any physiotherapy service following a recommendation from your G.P., some, such as BUPA, will only accept claims from a list of their designated providers. It is best to check with your insurance company before booking as to whether you will be able to claim for your appointment.
All our staff are qualified MSK physiotherapists, many specialising in sport related injuries and rehabilitation. Clinic staff are all registered with the HCPC & the CSP, are either SHU employed lecturer practitioners or full-time clinicians, and currently hold or are working towards post-graduate qualifications.
Our reception team aim to respond to all enquires via email within the week. As all face to face requests must be screened before an appointment can be finalised, we may be unable to facilitate requests for same day appointments. Our reception team will aim to get back to you as soon as possible to offer you the earliest available appointment based on your stated preferences during booking. Please be aware that dependant on the amount of request received may mean communication may take longer than our targeted aim, and we thank you for your patience during this time. You can contact us via email, or by phone or in-person for the quickest way to book.
We look to take BSc Physiotherapy students on their clinical placement for at least one 6 - 8 week block each year. Any future appointments available with our students and supervised by our qualified clinical staff will be communicated through this website, the clinic social media channels and in the We Are Hallam newsletter staff receive via email daily.
Anyone is able to access the physiotherapy clinic services, be that staff or students of SHU, Team Hallam Ultimate Gym members or external service users. Prices vary dependant upon memberships and more information can be found on the prices section of the website.
If you have been offered a face to face appointment at our Collegiate Campus, here's what you will need to be aware of:
Parking around the area is limited, especially during peak hours and university term time, and mostly pay & display. Please factor this into your arrival time. On arrival, if you have not already, the reception team will take payment and provide entry to the physiotherapy clinic waiting area. Please sanitise your hands upon entering and leaving the clinic room using the hand wash and sanitisation stations around the building if available. Due to limited space, you will be allowed to bring up to two chaperones maximum, which staff must be made aware of in advance.
Our reception team will have sent you a link to the online meeting with your therapist on your booking confirmation email, please join this meeting no more than 5 minutes before your appointment time. Ensure you are wearing appropriate clothing and are prepared to demonstrate movements which may include stepping away from your desk or area where your computer is set-up. You may be asked to expose areas of your body, such as joints, requested by the therapist to examine the area of complaint during the appointment, so please ensure you are somewhere private. Make sure there are no trip hazards or objects that may harm you or others around whilst you perform these movements. If necessary your therapist either during or after your consultation will prepare rehabilitation exercises for you and sent these via email you have supplied.
Once you have requested an appointment, our reception team will email you with a link to pay for your consultation which must be completed before the appointment. We are able to process changes or cancellations with no charge up to 24 hours before your designated appointment time. We will not be able to process refund requests after this period should you wish to cancel your appointment or if you do not attend.
If you are a Hallam Ultimate member, cancellation requests for booked appointments with less than 24 hours notice will be accepted, however will still count towards your allowance of sessions for the academic year.

If you have used your allocation of physiotherapy sessions for the year (6) and require further physiotherapy input, you will still be able to use the physiotherapy services. First, however this needs to be signed off and agreed to by the clinic team and the PASP lead. Get in touch with both to authorise this before booking your consultation, or you may incur a fee on your account.
