Welcome to the Practice Assessment Toolkit.
(The Toolkit continues to be a work in progress throughout the pilots; therefore more content may be added in future, utilising feedback).
We, Nicola Woodhall, Lewis Newton, and Elwin Masih, have been seconded to a HEE/ICS project from practice where we have all been recently involved with student education, and in particular clinical skills. We have been asked to create something that will assist Practice Assessors and Practice Supervisors in the assessment of Annexe A and B proficiencies. In turn this will also support students on placement to prepare for assessment, particularly their final interview. The project will create a model which will be piloted within the placements used by Sheffield Hallam University but be transferable across the region. The toolkit has been created to assist Practice Assessors to assess students against the clinical skills in the Future Nurse Proficiencies, by presenting numerous different routes to providing evidence.
The Toolkit cannot be used to assess Episodes of Care and Medicines Management as these assessments have clear criteria to follow.
This site is for Practice Assessors and Practice Supervisors. In addition it may also assist student nurses in their preparation for mid point and final interview
This is a collection of resources and links that are intended to provide you with a Toolkit to assess future nurses against the Annexe A and B proficiencies as detailed in the Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment (SSSA) 2018
In addition, there are examples of documents to use to provide the evidence used to assess, and an example of a final interview utilising the Toolkit in an area where the skill is not available, and the Practice Assessor is not competent in the skill they are assessing.
The resources in this site aim to make the process of assessment consistent and transferable across the placement circuit
Each page will be structured to identify what will be covered and what we hope you will learn from the resources to support practice assessing.
Use the navigation pane on the top or bottom of the page to access each of the pages.
The PowerPoint below includes an introduction to the project and a guide to a final interview for a Practice Assessor who is not competent in the skill being assessed and the skill is not available within their practice area.
