Descendants of the Parasites.
Dark Is Not Evil: Despite the Puppeteer Parasite relationship with their Hosts, they're not presented as being any more evil than most of the other sapient post-humans, likely due to it being a quirk of their evolution rather than any form of malice.
Horse of a Different Color: The Symbiotes evolved this kind of relationship with the larger post-humans who inhabited their planet back during their parasitic days, though by the time they redeveloped civilization their mounts had largely become Meat Puppets.
Puppeteer Parasite: Evolving slowly from simple hormonal manipulation to hijacking nervous systems.
Slave Race: The Hosts are little more than vehicles for the Symbiotes.
The Symbiote: An unusual use of this trope combined with Puppeteer Parasite. While their relationship might not seem symbiotic on first glance, it actually is mutually beneficial because the sapience of the symbiote means that it helps both itself and the Host survive without the host needing to think for itself. This was effective enough that it allowed the Symbiotes to out-compete other descendants of the Parasites that used a more traditional version of the trope with claws, venom, enhanced senses, etc.
