The academic consequences of plagiarism
Plagiarism is using someone else's work and passing it off as your own. Plagiarism is unethical, a false representation of one's work and also a form of theft. The repercussions of plagiarising someone’s work are: a law suit, failing a test or expulsion and ruining your reputation. One can avoid plagiarism by paraphrasing, using a plagiarism checker (eg. Turnit in), proper in-text citations to cite quotations, and a reference list which will give credit to all the sources that were used and it's authors. If someone plagiarized my work I would feel disrespected, robbed and helpless.
Global warming, my views on the controversial topic and my altered beliefs
I do not think that global warming is a myth. Global warming is defined as the long-term warming of the planet's overall temperature. Most scientists attribute this change to the increasing levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere as a result of burning fossil fuels. Anthony Watts acknowledges this fact but also states that carbon dioxide only makes up a certain percentage of the planet's temperature and that no proper, in-dept experiments have be conducted to deduce the other contributing factors. He claims that the increase in infrastructure and vehicles (the huge shift from rural to urban) could be a contributing factor as objects hold heat from the sun during the day and release it at the night. Several other factors could be at play but have never been confirmed because people are to busy monetizing on the solutions to evaluate the causes. Anthony Watts had some good, thought provoking points and he was very persuasive. I believe that global warming is blown out of proportion as many people associate many negative, weather conditions with it. Personally, I believe that one can not claim to know the effects of something without first knowing the exact causes. In the future, I would address my beliefs by expanding my thoughts beyond short-term global warming solutions to include long-term solutions and examine the possible causes. A basic understanding of the causes of global warming can help one to prevent the levels from further increasing.
