This is a reminder that acknowledging and facing difficult situations can have a positive impact on my learning
I strongly believe that journals and reflective writing can both be incredibly beneficial to the social, mental and educational aspects of a student's life. When a student takes the personal time necessary to not only reflect on the events that occured throughout the day or week but also to associate an emotion with that particular memory and decipher what it means, it can bring a sense of relief or certainty to one's mind. This is immensely important because a stressed student won't be able to commit to their studies or even pay attention to lectures. Although reflecting on the past can not change it, it can however help a student to acknowledge where they may have fallen short in their learning and how they can avoid or resolve the problem in the future.
Similarly to journals, a portfolio can also be used to support the learning process. A student can use a portfolio to keep a record of all their assignments, essays and projects in a systematic, organized way. Although this does not necessarily aid their knowledge, it does however make things easier, giving them more time to allocate towards something more crucial like studying.
