(1) Teacher training starts here.

1a. Overview of SEL definitions and competencies [15-20 minutes]: Review each of the short 3 minute videos on the CASEL 5: Self-awareness, Self-management,  Social awareness, Relationship skills, and Responsible decision making. The Everyday Speech scope and sequence teaches these skills in this order for a specific developmental reason, so it is a good idea to watch these videos first even if you are familiar with the CASEL 5.

> If you are middle/high school, move to 1b. If you are elementary, move to 1c. and select your grade level video (pK-5 vs. 6-12).

1b. Cultivating an SEL Community [3:19] and The Power of Mindfulness [4:51]: I highly recommend watching the "Cultivating an SEL Community" because it is a nice way to think about how SEL gets integrated into not only your curriculum and classroom lessons, but also how you might team as a middle/high school community to support a universal approach; even if it is just your grade level partner or another content area teacher who vertically teaches your subject. The mindfulness component of the middle/high school curriculum is embedded throughout the units and the platform, so you can choose to watch this now or come back maybe later on.

1c. SEL Curriculum Navigation- Note that you might want to have already logged into Everyday Speech using the email that was sent to you. Perhaps have two tabs on your computer open. One that has the videos you are watching using the link above. The other with your Everyday Speech platform open and you logged in. This will allow you to toggle back and forth as necessary.

> pK-5 [15:00]: You will want to watch this 15 minute on-boarding video before you start exploring the curriculum and the Everyday Speech platform.

> 6-12 [15:00]: You will want to watch this 15 minute on-boarding video before you start exploring the curriculum and the Everyday Speech platform.

(2) Take a peek at the full scope and sequence of the curriculum.

I suggest that you either download and save to file on your desktop or print them and assemble them into a folder/binder. This will allow for easy access as you reference the curriculum in your own lesson/unit planning.

NOTE: 6-12 teachers might want to look back at the SEL Everyday: Integrating SEL with Instruction in Secondary Classrooms that was provided to staff at 22-23 Convocation. You might want to use this text to explore how you might embed an SEL lesson into your larger curriculum. Srinivasan does a great job discussing SEL goals and objectives integrated into UbD for content instruction.

Again, if you don't have a copy then reach out to Kim Garrison to get one.

(3) Try out a lesson/unit, and or meet with a colleague or team member to make a plan.

(4) If you try out a lesson and your planning as a team, try out the "Share with Colleagues" button to help with collaborating.
