In the Third Grade, music students will have the opportunity to listen to great works of music and learn about famous composers. They will continue to play a variety of percussion instruments and some stringed instruments as well. They will be introduced to the concept of chordal accompaniment and learn to play simple accompaniments. They will continue developing skills necessary to match pitch and demonstrate good singing technique. They will move from simplified rhythmic notation to reading actual music notation (quarter, eighth, half & whole notes/rests). They will be introduced to the staff and the concept of reading pitches on lines and spaces. They will spend time learning to draw the symbols of music notation. Best of all, they will have a good time doing it!
