AP Studio Art

Each year, the College Board evaluates tens of thousands of AP Studio Art portfolios from students around the world. Every portfolio must demonstrate more than technical skill — it must reveal original thinking, creative risk-taking, visual exploration, and a clear artistic voice.

Throughout the year, AP Studio Art students develop a body of work centered around a personal idea, question, or sustained investigation. Students spend months researching, experimenting with materials and processes, refining their concepts, and documenting their creative journey. Their portfolios include finished artworks, process documentation, and written reflections that communicate their artistic intentions and decision-making.

AP Studio Art is a rigorous, college-level art experience that challenges students to think like practicing artists. Success requires a balance of craftsmanship, creativity, persistence, and the ability to reflect on and respond to the artistic process.

The AP Studio Art program at Mountain View High School has a rich history dating back to the early 2000s. Over the years, MVHS students have created exceptional portfolios and achieved exemplary AP scores, demonstrating the strength of our visual arts community and the dedication of our student artists.

This course is not simply about creating individual artworks — it is about developing ideas, exploring possibilities, taking creative risks, and discovering a unique artistic voice.
