Educator • Artist • Photographer
I'm Lori Nock.
I've been teaching art for many years, and photography has been a huge part of my life. I also grew up making art, skateboarding, and spending a lot of time creating things. I had a few teachers who saw something in me before I saw it in myself, and that's one of the reasons I became a teacher. My goal is to help you develop your own creative voice and leave this class with work you're genuinely proud of.
Ms. Nock studied at The Ohio State University and the Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD), earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education. She also holds two Master’s Degrees from Cal State San Jose in Instructional Technology and Educational Leadership.
Her extensive training in modern pedagogy includes:
Ohio State University’s landmark partnership with The Getty Institute: The department received a Getty grant to develop Discipline-Based Art Education (DBAE) resources, conduct research, and lead professional development for teachers. This multi-year effort produced highly trained, research-driven, and culturally responsive art educators and established a nationally recognized art-education program, a legacy that continues to shape K–12 art education and teacher training across the United States.
Research Methods in DBAE (Discipline-Based Art Education).
Postmodern and Multicultural Methods in Art Education.
She continues her education through studio coursework and stays highly informed of national initiatives through the National Art Education Association (NAEA).
Ms. Nock has taught at MVHS since 2001, leading comprehensive studio art and photography programs and presenting at a variety of professional workshops. She also has taught digital and commercial art as an ROP instructor.
She has experience teaching all age groups and is known for creating welcoming, student-centered spaces where creativity and personal storytelling thrive. These groups include workshops and programs in the Bay Area and beyond.
Her artistic experience includes:

At the heart of Ms. Nock’s teaching is a belief:
