What are Home Practice Goals?
Home Practice Goals will be listed on each monthly newsletter. Aside from occasional home projects that may come up in the school year, I will not be assigning formal homework. The suggestions that will be provided each week are optional practice that reinforce something previously taught. My goal is to provide meaningful practice for at home, while also understanding that spending time with family, reading, playing outside together, making home-school connections during everyday activities, enjoying after-school enrichments/activities, etc., are also important ways to promote student success.
Home Practice Goals listed on the newsletter may consist of reviewing phonics skills/trick words, practicing math facts, reading as a family, and/or any unfinished work from the school day if necessary.
With that said, I understand some students may need accommodations or modified home practice expectations, and that not all students have reliable access to the internet or devices at home. I promise to be good a listener and to be flexible to figure out what works best for the individual needs of the students and families in our class.
The best way to help your child be successful with their home practice is to build a consistent routine and reinforce the importance of practice to develop learning. Help your child find a consistent time and a quiet spot where they can complete their focused practice. For some families, this may mean completing home practice when their student comes home from school. For others, it may mean completing homework after dinner or sports activities.
