Our curriculum is based on the Massachusetts State Frameworks and the Common Core Standards. We also develop and use a variety of strategies, accommodations, and modifications to ensure ALL students are successful and make progress toward the goals of the curriculum standards.
Key Points about First Grade
The leap from Kindergarten to First Grade is ENORMOUS. First Grade offers, for some, a longer school day, a lot more teacher directed whole group and small group instruction, partner work, as well, as more independent work. However, there are also ample opportunities for hands-on, small group learning, and differentiated instruction. The beginning of this school year has involved practicing and learning routines and reviewing our numbers, letters, and basic sight words.
The End of Year Benchmarks include:
reading and comprehending enriched literature
writing a detailed paragraph with appropriate spelling and punctuation
knowing addition and subtraction facts fluently up to 10
solving mathematical problems and proving solutions with pictures, numbers, and words
