To help faculty & research staff make connections with relevant agencies and program officers.
To show a Michigan Tech “presence” at agencies. As a group we can hear from agencies/speakers we couldn’t when traveling as individuals.
To gather information about agency priorities, new initiatives/programs, and related intelligence.
To build connections/collaborations among faculty.

The trip began with a focus on early-career faculty but now faculty at any career stage can join, as well as any active researcher (with the department's support). Now the trip is open to faculty and researchers at any career stage.
Starting in 2024, the trip is transitioning to smaller focused trips with the potential to make trips multiple times per year.

Adapting to the changing federal landscape
Federal agencies are adapting day-by-day to the executive branch's orders and memos. Those adaptations are trickling down to us as well. The RD office is tracking several sources to adapt our plans for this trip, for proposal development, and for faculty advice.
