As future educators, teacher candidates (TCs) are responsible for presenting current and clear VSPCs to the Department before any field or practicum experience starts.
Remember, TCs without a current and clear VSPC will not be permitted to participate in a field experience or practicum, and school placement information will be withheld until VSPCs are verified.
Additionally, since various organizations have different processes for applying for VSPCs, it is essential to note that VSPCs issued by:
Local RCMP detachments or police services in areas of residence outside of Calgary must be dated after May 1, 2025.
Calgary Police Service's (CPS) online digital system must be dated within 3 months of your practicum/field experience start date. Since CPS VSPCs are only available and verifiable in the system for 90 days from the date VSPCs are issued.
This process can take anywhere from 2 to 12 weeks, so it’s important to do this with plenty of time. Not having a VSPC before your placement will make you ineligible to work in schools.
TCs are responsible for all costs related to VSPCs. However, discounts may be available using the letter attached, depending on the agency to which TCs apply.
Instructions for Submitting Your VSPC to the FEPC/PWIL Office
Please note that there is a new procedure for submitting your Vulnerable Sector Police Check (VSPC) to the FEPC/PWIL office this year.
You are no longer required to schedule a Google Meet appointment or log into your CPS account to present your VSPC. Instead, we are now permitted to accept screenshots or PDFs of your police check directly via email. This change will help streamline the process for everyone.
What you need to do:
Once you receive your VSPC, take a clear screenshot or save it as a PDF.
Email the image or PDF of your VSPC to me directly. Please send from MRU email address and include year of study in the email.
Once I have opened and reviewed your email, I will reply to confirm that your document has been seen and cleared.
Important:
Please allow up to one week for a response, as I will be processing many submissions at the same time. Keep a printed copy to bring to your placement on Day 1. The school board requires this and you will not be permitted to start your placement without this step.
