About Year Two
Year 2 teacher candidates (TC) participate in field experience once a week. In the fall semester, they attend for one half day each week. In the winter semester, they attend for one full day each week.
During the fall semester, candidates are enrolled in EDUC 2371: Language, Literacy and Development. In the winter, their field experience is connected to EDUC 2375: Effective Assessment. They are also enrolled in concurrent courses, including Individual Development and Teaching Language Arts.
This is a literacy-focused year. As part of their field experience, teacher candidates are expected to provide one-to-one or small group literacy instruction. They are also required to lead at least one whole class lesson.
Teacher candidates will be using this website to guide their literacy support with your students. https://mrureads.ca/

Important Considerations for Schools
Teacher candidates are expected to be at the school 30 minutes before the students arrive and stay to debrief the morning with you after the students have left for lunch.
The day of the week a TC will be in your classroom during the fall is dependent on their course schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. All TCs will be in schools for full days on Wednesdays in the winter semester and also February dates for block week.
Field Experience Placements do not require cohort-based placements so are well suited for schools that can only take on 1-2 TCs.
What’s required from you?
You will be required to submit a short feedback form at the end of each semester. This form provides feedback to teacher candidates on ways to improve their professional practice.
Being a mentor teacher (MT) is a wonderful opportunity for you to develop as a teacher leader and to have another set of hands to support your students, particularly in the area of literacy but in other subjects as well.
